“ 4 stars given that this is located in Malaysia and not in the U.S. It would merit a 2.5 or 3 stars if this place were in the BBQ belt. Considering the fact this is the nearest to slow/low American-style BBQ (as opposed to grilling over direct flame as in satay), this is a treat for the locals who studied/lived in or visit from the U.S. Set your expectations correctly and you won 't be overly disappointed. Keep in mind: For this rating, I refrained from comparing Beard Bros to rib joints like Rendezvous or Corky's in Memphis, TN (lived near Memphis for nearly 10 years) or Texas brisket places like Franklin's, Rudy's, Stubbs' Salt Lick, etc. around Austin, TX. I used to hit Rudy's on 360 for lunch a couple of times a week when I worked/lived in Austin. Gained a lot of weight! I also used to smoke my own brisket for 20 hours at 210 Fahrenheit using either live oak (my favorite), apple wood, hickory, or pecan (so, yes, I crave great BBQ). Tried mesquite once and it was too bitter for long smoke times. Nor am I factoring in NC style or KC style or Santa Maria style, etc. This is just based on what you can get in Malaysia. That said, the ribs/brisket/meat is a a notch or two drier, tougher, less smoky/flavorful than what you get in the U.S. but it is certainly tons better than not having any at all. “ Delicious Texas Cooking in Malaysia! Just made a visit to Beard Brothers in Tropicana Avenue earlier this evening and we're glad we did. The slow-cooked, smoked beef brisket was tender and moist. The 100g serving was plenty along with the generous side portions of mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and baked beans. The accompanying BBQ sauce was just the right blend -- perhaps could add in something spicy to give it a bit more "bite". The only thing we'd change would be to serve the food a bit more hot/panas -- and from what we heard from the staff, plans are already in the works to make that happen. We tip our hats to the "Beard Brothers" -- they've done a great job of providing genuine American-style barbecue in a comfortable venue at a fair price. Well done guys! ”
“ Had the brisket and the rib. Tastes great, the rib has a nice jerky taste to it. On the pricy side, meats are priced per hundred grams. The ribs are sold per rib but calculated in grams, so bigger ribs are more expensive per piece. The pop soda that comes with the set meal tastes terrible, get the other soft drinks or just have water. ”
